Benefits of quitting
If you are a smoker, quitting smoking is the best thing you can do to improve the length and quality of your life. People who stop smoking reduce their chances of developing heart disease, cancer, breathing problems, or infections. You will also have more money to spend on things for yourself and your family.
- In 2006, the average packet of 20 cigarettes costs you about $8.30
- Someone smoking a pack a day would spend over $3000 a year on cigarettes

Calculate how much it is costing you each year
It is beneficial to stop smoking at any age. The earlier smoking is stopped, the greater the health gain.
- Within two hours of quitting smoking the nicotine is out of your system
- Within 24 hours the carbon monoxide is out of your system and your lungs work more effectively
- After 12 months, your risk of sudden death from heart attack is almost half that of smokers
