Currently CEITC provides training opportunities in 2 workshops. They are:
Talkin' Up Good Air one day training Workshop
This workshop is aimed at health workers who wish to undertake tobacco control activities in their community and is based on the Talkin' Up Good Air: Australian Indigenous Tobacco Control Resource Kit. It provides basic instruction on:
- Why smoking matters and the impact of smoking on health
- How to engage Community
- Helping people to quit the smokes
- What is research - how to find out about your community
- Planning and running a project
- Getting the message out to your community
- Finding funding, resources and references
Workshops are held at the invitation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations and usually have between 7 and 15 attendees. Organisations who wish to host a workshop should contact CEITC on (03) 8344 0870 or send an email to

Tobacco Action Worker Training
CEITC has been engaged by the Department of Health and Ageing to develop a short course for Indigenous Tobacco Control Action Workers (TAWs) employed under the COAG Tackling Indigenous Smoking Initiative, which is part of the Closing the Gap measures agreed upon in 2008. This course provides a more indepth look at tobacco control issues including:
- What are the challenges facing TAWs
- Smoking facts and figures
- Who is CEITC
- Health promotion - what is it and why is it important
- Projects in practice
- What is the situation in your community - needs analysis
- Going smoke-free in the workplace
- Giving up the smokes - behaviour change, addiction, what is brief intervention, quitting support methods
- program planning and evaluation
